Medivet 24 Hour Enfield is part of the Medivet group and is set up as a 24-hour hospital for both routine care and urgent cases. The practice advertises advanced diagnostics and surgical capability (including an in-house laboratory, imaging, and an orthopaedic theatre), plus services such as keyhole surgery and endoscopy. It also states it has ISFM cat-friendly clinic status and is a veterinary nurse training facility.
Recent reviews describe both strong experiences (owners mentioning being kept informed during an operation and detailed support around euthanasia) and serious complaints about emergency handling and communication. One review alleges prolonged crating/sedation during an emergency visit and delays/contradictions over test results, while another alleges an attempted sedation and a very high quote for anal gland expression compared with another clinic.

My experience with Medivet (Enfield 24 Hour Hospital) was alarming and exposed serious deficiencies in the standard of care, communication, and clinical governance expected of a 24-hour emergency veterinary provider. My dog was admitted as an emergency with serious breathing difficulties. Despite this, he was sedated, muzzled, and left confined in a cage for several hours while other patients were prioritised. He is an extremely anxious dog, which I made the practice fully aware of prior to leaving him in their care. Had I been told he would be left sedated and caged for hours while other cases were prioritised, I would never have consented to leaving him there. Emergency admission should mean active monitoring and clinical prioritisation, not prolonged distress. This reflects a model of profit over care. What followed was an unacceptable breakdown in communication regarding the BAL results, for which I paid a significant premium. I was explicitly advised that these urgent results would be returned within three days and paid an additional expedited fee on that basis. This did not happen. Over several days, while my dog was deteriorating, I repeatedly chased the practice in writing and received no response. I was given conflicting and inaccurate information about the status of the results, including being told they had not been received and were still pending, only to later be informed that they had in fact been completed days earlier. This contradiction was never properly explained and directly delayed ongoing treatment, despite my actual vet actively waiting for the information. The only reason I agreed to proceed with this testing, rather than wait and take my dog to my regular vet the following day, was the explicit reassurance that the results would be returned within three days. That assurance was not honoured, despite the additional fee charged. Medivet has since issued a generic apology for “poor communication,” yet has failed to address any of the substantive concerns raised, accept accountability for demonstrably poor practice, or provide a meaningful explanation for the clinical and operational failures involved. Vague reassurances that “patient welfare is a priority” are not credible when set against the reality of what occurred. Leaving an emergency patient sedated, muzzled, and confined in a cage for several hours while other patients were prioritised cannot reasonably be described as prioritising welfare. The gap between Medivet’s stated standards and its actual conduct in this case is stark and deeply concerning. This was premium-priced emergency care costing close to £3,000, delivered in a way that raises serious questions about clinical governance, patient welfare, and professional accountability. Due to their complete lack of accountability, this matter is now being escalated to the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. I would strongly caution anyone considering this practice, particularly those with anxious or critically unwell animals.

Very incompetent staff. Wanted to sedate my very elderly cat and charge us over £700 for anal gland expression which was done in under 2 minutes for less than £100 in front of me at another vet. The staff at Medivet, including Dr Serrao took no responsibility and were incredibly dismissive and unprofessional- simply just made excuses. Disgusting service for ridiculous prices.

The out of hour Vet in Enfield was amazing, we can not talk enough for the care she offered, she did and excellent job. People like her are so few with such high empathy level and kindness. She was from the start to end a brilliant vet and her care and dedication were beyond expectations. I really recommend her and she really deserves an award for all her great work. I appreciate everything you did and I am so grateful for having the chance to meet such kind and amazing Dr. All the best in your future career and the boss of the surgery should definitely get you a reward for your hard work and support. Thank you for everything you did for Teddy.

Words cannot express how wonderful all the staff are. I have been coming to the vets for as long as I can remember. First when it was Happy Pet then Medivet. Timba our beloved dog, had to be put to sleep. She lived an amazing life. 15 years, 5 months and 25 days to be precise. I would like to say that on the day, I didn't have my usual vet Lorenzo. I had Isabelle. She was kind, caring and talked me all through the proccess. Lorenzo came in through the proccess too. The after care and the thoughtfulness from all at this branch was second to none. Thank you so much for everything you have done for Timba over the years. Love from The Kouri Family

We unfortunately had to take our boy Frankie to an emergency appointment last night where we sadly had to say goodbye to him. The team were honestly absolutely amazing, kind and caring. Our vet lead us through every step with caution, understanding and patience. I cannot express how thankful I am to how you all treated us through out the process and for the care and instant love you gave to our boy. Thank you all so much.
